From the moment they arrived, the family felt welcome. “The staff created an environment where we could exhale after long days of appointments and treatment,” expressed Iroh’s mom Sugiry. Daily activities gave their son a chance to play, explore and simply be a kid again. After hours spent navigating medical plans and specialist visits, returning to a place where he felt safe and excited to participate meant everything. The House quickly became a familiar and comforting part of their routine.
A Moment That Mattered
Healing is not only physical. It is emotional, relational and deeply connected to feeling understood. “Our son found joy again. Seeing other kids with similar struggles still laughing and playing was a huge help in his journey,” shared Sugiry. Those moments of connection helped him feel supported and encouraged. The family shared that he still asks to return to the House, which speaks volumes about the positive impact it had on Iroh.
The Difference It Made
Finding lodging that meets the needs of a child with severe skin conditions can be stressful and unpredictable. RMHC-Denver removed that burden entirely. The family did not have to worry about finding a hotel that could accommodate their son’s care including a safe and comfortable environment during bath times when his skin was painful and sensitive. Instead, they had a place that understood their situation and offered compassion without hesitation. The House provided stability at a time when everything else felt uncertain.
A Message to Other Families
The Salas-Gaytan family wants others to know that the staff and community at RMHC-Denver is deeply supportive and understanding. No matter what a family is facing, they offer belonging and normalcy. After long days of treatment, it becomes a place where families can rest, connect and regain strength.
