Making Comfort Food a Monthly Commitment

Lane Gang
The Lane Gang is one of RMHC-Denver’s most reliable and heartfelt volunteer groups. Once a month, this tight-knit family fills our kitchen with warm meals, laughter and the kind of comfort families need during difficult times. Their commitment has become a true gift for our staff and the families we serve.

When it comes to showing up for families, few are as consistent and beloved as the Lane Gang. Once a month, this tight-knit family of six (plus one significant other!) fills the kitchen at Ronald McDonald House of Denver with the warmth of comfort food and the energy of a family who truly cares.

“We really look forward to our volunteer nights. It’s a chance to catch up with each other, cook something delicious together and support the families,” emphasized Macy, “It means a lot to us.”

Their journey began in 2010, when mom Britt first volunteered with a friend. As a mother of healthy twin boys, she felt an instant connection with the moms she met at the House, especially those navigating NICU stays with twins of their own. That shared experience has stayed with her, including a memorable moment when she met a mom from her hometown in Wyoming.

Now, volunteering is a full family affair. Ronald McDonald House of Denver is one of the few places where they could give back as a family and involve their kids in a meaningful way. At each visit, a different family member picks a favorite comfort food to share. Daughter Macy chose a personal favorite of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Lovely to see how such a simple meal can bring so many smiles. Every dish is made with care to offer families a little comfort during a tough time.

“It means so much to know that every 4th Monday is covered. Having reliable, recurring groups like the Lanes is such a gift. Their commitment makes a real difference, and we love having the chance to catch up with them each month,” explains Chef Pete.

Coming every month has become a meaningful routine for their family. “It’s rewarding to be here together and to know we’re helping,” Britt shares. “The families are always kind and thankful.”

This kind of ongoing support brings consistency and comfort to families who are living through uncertainty. If you’re looking for a way to make a lasting impact, consider becoming a recurring meal volunteer. By committing to providing one meal each month, you help ensure that families are nourished, cared for and reminded they’re not alone. Learn More About Meals for Families
